Shake Shack is expanding to Toronto’s downtown area. The well-known American fast-food business and burger joint revealed on Tuesday that Yonge and Dundas, a 5,500-square-foot restaurant, will be one of its many first outposts in Ontario.
“We are thrilled to confirm the rumors and open our doors at Yonge and Dundas, marking the beginning of a delicious journey for Canadians,” said Billy Richmond, Business Director at Shake Shack Canada. “We’re excited to serve up our signature Shack classics along with some Canadian exclusives that we’ve developed with our local culinary partners to be enjoyed amongst Toronto’s dynamic cityscape.”
Shake Shack has teamed up with a local Toronto artist to create an installation. ShackBurgers, crinkle-cut fries, and all of its other favorites will be available on the menu. The Shroom Burger, a crispy fried portobello mushroom stuffed with melted cheese, is one of their vegetarian options.
Shake Shack’s launch in Canada will involve more than simply standard fast-food fare. There will be other changes as well in menu items that will be available only in Toronto.
Consumers will be able to request a maple salted pretzel shake, which consists of pretzels and frozen vanilla custard that has been streaked with maple syrup from Canada. Shake Shack is one of the few fast-food restaurants in Canada that offers wine and beer.
Shake Shack was established by Danny Meyer in 2004 and opened its first store in Madison Square Park in New York City. It was originally going to be a tiny hot dog cart, but it developed a cult following and ended up staying in the park forever. The company’s global reach has grown rapidly over the years, with outlets in both the US and other countries, such as the UK, Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
